Advantage II for Dogs
Advantage II for dogs is a safe and easy to apply flea treatment for dogs not younger than 7 weeks of age. It kills adult fleas, larvae, lice and eggs to prevent infestation. Its active ingredient imidacloprid works on the nervous system to cause paralysis and eventually kills fleas within 12 hours; while pyriproxyfen regulates growth and prevents eggs from hatching.
Advantage II for dogs is a non-prescriptive over-the-counter product for dog flea treatment and infestation control. Advantage II Small Dog for 10-lb dogs and under comes in green package of 0.4 ml; Advantage II Medium Dog in teal package for 11-2-lb dogs is available in 1.0 ml; Advantage II Large Dog for 21-55 lbs. (red) is available in 2.5 ml; and Advantage II Extra Large Dog over 55 lbs. (blue) is available in 4.0 ml. The preparations come in applicator tips and should be applied to skin on back between the shoulder blades to the tail.
Advantage II for dogs is fragrance-free and waterproof. Thus, after application, the dog may be bathed or be allowed to swim as it remains effective even if the pet gets wet.
Caution is to be taken in administering the solution and try not to get this poisonous product in the dog’s eyes or mouth since it causes eye irritation and is harmful if swallowed. If the product gets contact on skin or eyes, wash or flush with soap and plenty of water and call poison control center if swallowed accidentally.
Side effects of Advantage II for dogs
If sensitivity occurs after application of the Advantage II for dogs, although this is noted in very rare cases, the pet owner should immediately consult a veterinarian and give the dog relief for whatever the effect of the topical solution has caused.
Likewise, a veterinarians advice must be sought before applying Advantage II for dogs if the dog happens to be injured, harmed or incapacitated; pregnant or nursing her puppies; already aged and being given other pesticides such as those for the prevention of ticks and other animal pests. The opinion of the animal doctor should first be sought to keep the pet safe.
If an error in the application was committed and an overdose of Advantage II for dogs has been administered to your pet, immediately tell your veterinarian of the present situation for him to assess and recommend measures or try to call the emergency room to give immediate relief to your pet.
Storage and disposal of Advantage II for dogs
The potency of the Advantage II for dogs can be retained if it will be stored in a cool and dry container; never in a refrigerator or similar device.
For added safety, empty containers of Advantage II for dogs should be immediately disposed, not reused or recycled at home as this may cause harmful effects.
To properly dispose of empty container, place in trash or offer for recycling; if the container is partly filled, call the local solid waste agency for instructions on proper and safe disposal. Avoid placing unused portion down the drain as contamination of the water system may occur which could cause harm. Lastly, the product should be kept away and out of reach of children and pets to avoid accidental poisoning.
